Yeah, I think I had a somewhat similar experience with Harry Potter— a phase of obsession with it, which ended kind of naturally. (It was before I really got in the internet, though, so I never found any fandom stuff for it.)
I absolutely understand and support people who want to throw out their books and never think about Harry Potter again! I also completely understand people who do have too much investment in the canon or the fandom to do that, and I think Harry Potter belongs to those people just as much as it belongs to JKR. And of course there are lots of people who never got into it in the first place, or thought it was terrible all along, but I think... there’s a trend of it being kind of woke to insult the writing of the books in a way that implies you never liked them, even if you did. And I think that sets up a situation where it’s implied that you should be able to evaluate the morality of an author from their work, and if you fail to make an accurate assessment of them, you have to retroactively edit your opinion instead of accepting that there was information you previously hadn’t considered, if that makes sense? And I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
